fabric receives £1.5 million from England Culture Recovery Fund

Jon | October 27, 2020

London’s fabric has been awarded over £1 million from the Arts Council’s Culture Recovery Fund.

The club, which has remained closed at its central London location since the shuttering of venues in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, revealed via their blog that they had been thrown a “vital lifeline” in receiving the £1.5 million grant, as DJ mag reports.

“Like so many other cultural institutions around the world, the last eight months have been some of the most challenging in our lifespan,” the statement from fabric reads. “With our doors closed and no source of income to sustain ourselves, simply paying rent and maintaining a 1,500 person venue in Central London has placed enormous pressure and financial strain on us as a business.

“Our grant will be used to develop a range of new initiatives, including a live stream series, expert-led tutorials, and community outreach programmes celebrating under-represented groups in our community. The past months have allowed us to reflect on all of the things we can improve as a cultural entity and we plan to implement these as soon as we begin activity. The fund will provide income for all artists, technicians and staff members involved, and we’ll share full details in the coming weeks.”
